Did Jesus really claim to be God, or is that belief a misunderstanding of his words? Some words Jesus spoke reflect his humility as a servant and his limitations as a man. Did Jesus claim to be God. And in the Synoptic Gospels did He claim to be God. In John’s Gospel Jesus’ deity is much more unambiguous and more explicit than in the Synoptics, and some academics have even claimed that in Matthew, Mark, or Luke, Jesus never claimed to be God. Is that true. In his book, The Case for Jesus, Roman Catholic scholar Brant Pitre points to the evidence of Jesus   But did Jesus claim to be God as Christians believe.

At the core of Christianity is the belief that God came to earth in the Person of His Son, Jesus Christ. Those who saw and wrote about Jesus called him the Creator of the universe. Raised in a religious culture of many gods, Ravi Zacharias writes of Jesus Christ as fully man and fully :// Jesus, however, answered by claiming that He was God.

First, Jesus claimed to be the unique Son of God. As a result, the Jewish leaders tried to kill Him because in "calling God his own Father, [Jesus was] making himself equal with God" (John NIV). /did-jesus-claim-to-be-god-by-hank-hanegraaffhtml.

The Council of Nicea and Constantinople were convened in and C.E., respectively. At the Council of Nicea the nature of Jesus was determined to be of the same substance (Gk.

ομοούσιος – homousios) as the Father, and at the Council of Constantinople this doctrine was ratified and the doctrine of the Trinity was expressly declared to be a foundational Church ://   First, Jesus claimed to be the unique Son of God.

As a result, the Jewish leaders tried to kill Him because in "calling God his own Father, [Jesus was] making himself equal with God" (John NIV).In John Jesus went so far as to use the very words by which God revealed Himself to Moses from the burning bush (Exodus ).To the Jews this was the epitome of blasphemy, for they knew /   by Matt Slick.

Yes, Jesus claimed to be God. He claimed to be "I AM," which is God's name (Exodus with John ). For us to understand his claim in its cultural and biblical context, we need to read something in the Old Testament and then in the New ://   Question: "Is Jesus God.

Did Jesus ever claim to be God?" Answer: Some who deny that Jesus is God make the claim that Jesus never said that He is God. It is correct that the Bible never records Jesus saying the precise words, “I am God.” This does not mean, however, that Jesus never claimed to be God.

— Jesus claimed to be :// Jesus is God. There is no question that He and His followers knew Jesus was God. Based on His words and His deeds (“what you hear and see”) we can be convinced today that Jesus is God.

But don’t just take Matthew’s word for it. Mark, Luke, and John would like an opportunity to make the case for Jesus   Did Jesus ever claim to be God. Is the deity of Christ biblical. The New Testament clearly teaches that Jesus claimed to be God. The Bible also affirms the deity of Christ.

This is evident in a variety of ways. First, Jesus claimed to be equal with God. He could forgive sin, something only God could do (Mark ). According to Christ Himself, it is the Jesus sent by “the only true God” that brings a soul to life eternal (John ). What follows are a collection of Scriptures that are broken up into two simple categories: 1) What Jesus said about Himself; and 2) what the apostles, who repeatedly declared that they were “eyewitnesses” said about :// The New Testament is replete with direct and indirect claims of Christ’s divinity.

Perhaps the most famous is the beginning of the Gospel of John: “In the beginning was the word and the word of with God and the word was God” (John ). Jesus is the word made flesh (John ).

Jesus is ://   Jesus used several other saying with ‘I am’ in which He claimed to be equal to God. An example of this is “I am the light of the r follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life” (John ).This can never be said about just a :// Does the Gospel of Mark Claim that Jesus is God.

J By Carson Weitnauer One of the more challenging claims against the Christian faith is the historical claim that the earliest writings about Jesus don’t even claim that Jesus was Is Jesus Christ really God.

Did He ever claim to be God. Or was Jesus just a good-hearted religious teacher who became a little too zealous in His faith.

Or perhaps Jesus was just a prophet--or even worse: a deceitful liar or lunatic. Proof that Jesus is really God, not a created angel or merely a :// Did Jesus Claim to Be God. by Jeffrey J. Harrison. One of the popular ways scholars dismiss Christianity is to say that Jesus himself never claimed to be God.

Instead, they say, the early Church made him into a god. Jesus was an engaging, charismatic rabbi—nothing   First, Jesus claimed to be the unique Son of God. As a result, the Jewish leaders tried to kill Him because in “calling God his own Father, [Jesus was] making himself equal with God” (John).

In John Jesus went so far as to use the very words by which God revealed Himself to Moses from the burning bush (Exod). Jesus Christ claimed to be the ONLY way to God.

Not one of several ways, but the one and only to teach the way, but to be the way to God. Nobody has ever made claims like that before and backed them, but Jesus did through his love, balanced life, and :// Jesus had to be God because the God of Moses did not maintain his strength, given the Babylonian Exile and the Destruction of the Temple.

God left the Holy of Holies. The Father and the Son are one: Jesus died (left Earth physically) at the hands of Romans; and, God, in His Temple, left Earth physically (died) at the hands of :// The expression “Son of God” was a phrase that meant Jesus was God. It did not mean that Jesus was God’s offspring (compare John with ) or that He was a child of God.

Jesus explained the meaning of the phrase Himself in John Later in John the Jewish leaders used this claim against Jesus once again. Other Statements /question/did-jesus-ever-say-that-he-was-the-son-of-god.

Many people think Jesus did not claim to be God in the synoptic gospels (Matthew, Mark and Luke); however, though it wasn’t as direct, it is still there. All of them record Jesus healing the paralyzed man (Matthew –8). He first announced that the man’s sins were :// QUESTION: Did Jesus Say He Was God.

The gospel of John, which presents Jesus Christ in His deity, is sometimes called the "I AM" book. Over and over again in the book of John, Jesus said, "I AM." To the learned Jew this phrase "I AM" was very significant.

This video can be used for personal reflection or for group discussion with the coordinating study guide (sold separately). For Mark, Jesus was adopted to be God’s son at his baptism.

Before that, he was a mere mortal. For Luke, Jesus was conceived by God and so was literally God’s son, from the point of his conception. (In Luke Jesus did not exist *prior* to that conception to the virgin –   Did Jesus claim to be God.

Jesus clearly claimed to be the Messiah and Son of God: Jesus told the Samaritan woman that he is the Messiah ()Jesus affirmed Peter's statement that he is the Messiah and Son of God (Mtsee also MkLk )Jesus told the high priest that he is the Messiah and Son of God (MkMtLk ) Jesus Claim: “Jesus said to them, ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.‘ 59 So they picked up stones to throw at him, but Jesus hid himself and went out of the temple” (John ).

Clearly, the Jews understood Jesus to be making himself equal with :// Jesus claimed to be God the Son. No matter how hard we try to dissect it or explain it away, the evidence points directly to that most special claim made by Jesus.

Jesus gets God’s Honors; Jesus has God’s Attributes   If Jesus did not claim to be God, why did the Jews accuse him repeatedly of blasphemy. It is strange that people in the 20th century read the words of Jesus in a translated language and say that Jesus never claim to be God when we are told clearly that the Jews of Jesus’ time, who heard the original sayings of Jesus in their language and in their context, understood that he was claiming to Not only did He claim to be God, but He also claimed to have the power of God.

He said He has the authority to judge the nations (Matthew ). He claims the authority to raise people from the dead (John ) and to forgive sins (Mark )—things only God can do (1   There are many occasions on which Jesus states his identity with God.

John Jesus says. John (NIV) "Before Abraham was, I am" This is a clear reference to the name of God. Even if there were any doubt that this is the reference the reaction of the Pharisees clearly indicates that (in their eyes) this is a blasphemous :// 2 days ago   1 John And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ.

He is the true God and eternal life. Romans For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” John The people said, “You Jesus said to them that he was going to prove that the Son of man had power on earth to forgive sins.

Then he healed the paralytic (Matthew ). Jesus proved that he had the power to forgive sins by exercising power to heal. The two actions had to go together for one to be proof of the other.

Both had to flow from Christ’s own essence as God Nearly every New Testament book makes a claim, given in a variety of ways, with different words, that Jesus is God. None of them say the exact words, “Jesus is God.” I’m not suggesting that every one of these examples proves that Jesus is God, only that taken all together, there is clearly a major thrust of New Testament teaching that One possible reason for Jesus’ gradual self-revelation is simply that first-century Jews would not have been able to fathom a multi-personed God without reactively dismissing the claim or drifting into polytheism.

We have to pause for a moment to seriously consider the mat-ter.

It is not a light thing to claim to be God. A person who makes such a claim falls into one of three must belong to one of these three categories; he cannot belong to all three.

First, if he claims to beYes it does, but there are many Christian religions and the Jews who will tell you it doesn’t. I will show some of the verses that say directly and indirectly that Jesus is God. John says “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with G
